Bengali Tomato Dates Chutney || Sweet and Tangy Chutney|| Bhoger Chutney

Bengali tomato chutney is a very common and easy to prepare recipe. Bengalis usually serve it after the meal is over with some fried papad.

Ingredients:

  • Panch phoran masala -- 2 tsp
  • Mustard oil -- 1 Tbsp
  • Lemon juice -- 1 tsp
  • Raisin -- soaked 2 hrs
  • salt to taste.
  • Cashew nuts
  • Panch Phoran-- 1 tsp
  • Tomato-- 3 medium size (dice)
  • Sugar-- 1/2 cup
  • Dates (Chopped)-- 2 tbsp

Method:

  1. Heat the pan with 1 tbsp oil.
  2. Add 1 tsp of panch phoron.Let them crackle and fry till it change
  3. colour.
  4. Now add diced tomatoes. saute for a few seconds.
  5. Add salt and cook for 2-3 minutes till the pulp becomes mushy and soft.
  6. Now add 1/2 tsp of tumeric powder and mix well.
  7. Next add sliced dates and cook for 2-3 minutes on medium flame.
  8. At this stage add 1/4 cup of water.Cook till everything is
  9. incorporated.
  10. Now add 1/2 cup of sugar
  11. Soaked raisins
  12. cashew nuts.
  13. Cover it and cook for few minutes.
  14. Now add 1 tsp of lemon juice.
  15. 2 tbsp of panch phoran masala and mix them well.
  16. Turn off the flame and cover it for few minutes.
  17. Let it cool and then serve.
