Bahari Cholar Dal or Shahi Cholar Dal is an ever-popular lentil dish in all Bengali households. This is made primarily of Bengal gram lentil using traditional Bengali spices, dry fruits and nuts cooked in mustard oil. A typical Bengali dish, it is mainly served during festivals and pujas along with luchis ( puris made of maida/flour) or parathas. It is also served as a starting course in Bengali ceremonial cuisine. This is also had as a Sunday breakfast item along with luchis or kachoris. Try this simple-to-make flavorsome dal recipe at home and you can serve this with steamed rice as well.
Ingredients:
- Ghee/ Clarified Butter - 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
- Dried Red chilli - 1
- Cholar dal/Bengal gram Lentil - 100 gms
- Cashew nuts - 10 gms
- Sugar - 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
- Mustard oil - 2 tbsp
- Hing - 1/4 th tsp
- Whole green chilli - 1
- Salt as per taste
- Bay leaf - 1
- cumin Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Grated ginger - 1 tsp
- Kishmish / raisions - 10 gms
- Chopped coconut - 2 tbsp
