Tel Koi is a traditional Bengali spicy fish curry made with koi mach/fish. Even though this fish is abunduntly available during the rainy season, this particular spicy curry of this fish is best had in the winters. This is a spicy, savoury curry which augments the intrinsic taste of the fish itself. Even though the prep is a bit elaborate, the rewards of creating such a dish is the gastronimical satisfaction that one feels after having it. Put on your chef's apron and try this @ home!


  • Whole garam masala
  • Chopped tomato - 1 medium
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Cloves - 2-3 pcs
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Koi fish - 4 pcs (Medium size)
  • Red chilli powder - 1/4 th tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Garlic cloves - 5-6 pcs
  • Garam masala powder - 1/4 th tsp
  • Little bit of sugar
  • cinamon sticks - 1/2 inch
  • Chopped onion - 1 medium
  • Chopped green chillies - 2 green chillies
  • Salt as per taste
  • cardamoms - 2-3 pcs
  • Mustard oil - 5-6 tbsp
  • Chopped ginger- 1 tsp
