Soft and Instant Steam Dhokla | How to cook tasty steam dhokla at home


Simplest way of making best steam dhokla.

Measurements given is for 4 people


  • Salt As per taste
  • Udad dal 2 spoons
  • Chana dal 150 grams
  • Turmeric (haldi powder) 1/4th tsp
  • Green chilly As per taste
  • Eno / Baking soda 1/4th tsp
  • Curd 1 cup
  • Methi dana 5 -7
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 spoon
  • Oil 2 spoons
  • Hing 1/4th tsp
  • Rice 250 grams

Procedure :

  1. Soak Rice, Chana dal and Udad dal for 6-7 hours (overnight)
  2. After 6 hours grind everything and make a smooth dhokla mixture
  3. Keep it covered in a warm place for another 6-7 hours for fermentation
  4. After 6 hours our mixture will be ready
  5. Add haldi powder, hing, salt, oil and mix everything well
  6. Put steamer on flame and grease the plates with oil
  7. Add ginger garlic paste, green chilly, eno/baking soda and some water
  8. Give it a nice stir and spread the mixture evenly into the plates
  9. Add corriander leaves and red chilly powder on dhokla and put it inside the steamer
  10. Cook it for 10 minutes on high flame
  11. After 10 minutes serve it hot with chutney
