It's that time of year again for... FRIED GREEN TOMATOES!! Freshly picked GREEN TOMATOES, right from the garden or supermarket, sliced then drenched into a cornmeal coating and fried to golden perfection!! Never disappoints!! Click on SHOW MORE before for recipe...
FRIED GREEN TOMATOES:
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3 Green Tomatoes
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1/2 cup self-rising cornmeal
- 1-2 cups vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- Slice green tomatoes 1/4- inch thick or desired thickness. Add to slices to a paper towel lines cookie sheet or baking pan. Lightly sprinkle with salt. Flip tomato sliced and repeat with salt. Let rest for 5 minutes.
- Add buttermilk to shallow dish. In another shallow dish add flour, cornmeal, salt & pepper. Whisk until well blended.
- Dip each slice of tomato into buttermilk. Shake off excess buttermilk and drench into the flour mixture until well coated. Let rest on clean plate.
- In a 12-inch heavy bottom frying pan, over medium-low heat, add 1 cup of oil. Heat oil to 325 degrees F. Gently add coated sliced tomatoes to heated oil. Fry 2 minutes per side or until golden in color. Add additional oil when needed during frying time.
- Drain fried GREEN TOMATOES on paper towels. Serve immediately with or without a dip.
TIP: Keep FRIED GREEN TOMATOES heat in a preheated 200 degree oven up to 20 minutes.
