Bhapa Paneer | Steamed Cottage Cheese


The importance of both mustard and pioppy seeds cannot be over-stated in traditional Bengali cooking. Bhapa Paneer or steamed cottage cheese is a traditional Bengali preparation where-in cubed succulent paneer pieces are steamed with a deliciously tuned mustard and poppy seed paste. This is a suprt-quick and flavour-packed dish which will enthrall and tingle your taste buds at the same time.


  • Yogurt - 2 tbsp
  • Black mustard seeds - 2 tbsp
  • Poppy seeds - 1.5 tbsp
  • Chopped coriander leaves - 2 tbsp
  • Sugar - 1/4 th tsp
  • Mustard oil - 2-3 tbsp
  • Whole green chillies - 6-7
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4 th tsp
  • Paneer (Cut into small pieces)- 200 gms
  • Chopped Tomato - 1 small
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt as per taste
