HOMEMADE CRESCENT ROLLS:

  • 2 tablespoons warm water, 110 degrees F / 45 degrees C
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 - 1/4 (ounce) envelope dry yeast
  • 1 cup water, boiling
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup all-vegetable shortening
  1. In a large (heat proof) bowl add shortening & salt. Slowly add boiling water over both ingredients. Set aside.
  2. In a small bowl add yeast & 2 tablespoons of warm water with a temperature of 110-115 degrees F / 45 degrees C. Stir. Set aside.
  3. In a small bowl add eggs (beat with fork) then add sugar. Blend well together. Set aside.
  4. To shortening, salt and water (making sure shortening has melted & water is warm to touch) add in eggs and sugar. Whisk. Add dissolved yeast. Whisk. Add flour slowly...whisking until about 3 cups have been added. You may need to use a fork to add to last cup of flour.
  5. Using paper towel, lightly oil another large bowl. Add crescent roll dough to oil bowl. Cover with plastic. Place in refrigerator overnight. Dough will double in size during this time.
  6. Next day...remove dough from refrigerator. Divide dough into two equal halves. Using a rolling pin, roll 1/2 dough on floured surface to 17- inches in diameter. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife cut dough in half, then quarters, then each quarter into half, and each in half again until there is 16 pieces of dough.
  7. Starting at large end of dough. Roll up dough, tightly, to pointed end. Shape into crescent. Place on baking sheet about 2-inches apart. Cover rolls with paper towels.
  8. Let dough rise in a warm environment (draft free) for 3-4 hours.
  9. Once crescent rolls have doubled in size. Bake in preheated 375 degrees oven until golden. About 10-12 minutes.

Serve immediately.

TIP: Store crescent rolls in air tight containers or bag. Heat in microwave for 5-7 seconds at a time. Maybe heated in 250 degrees preheated oven for 4-6 minutes.

Enjoy your meal!
