Old Fashioned Southern Biscuits:
- 3 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 8 Tablespoons all-vegetable shortening
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Preheat over to 450 degrees.
- In a large mixing bowl add dry ingrendients. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter and shortening into dry ingredients until it begins to look like corn meal.
- Add buttermilk to mixture ...using a folk; stir until dough ball begins to form.
- Add dough to floured surface, spinkle with flour until no longer sticky, roll out 1/2-inch thick.
- Cut biscuits out with a 2-inch floured cutter.
- Place on ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
Serve hot. Makes 10-14 biscuits.
Tips: Biscuits can be thicker or thinner depending on how the dough is rolled out.
