FROSTED SUGAR COOKIES

(Makes 2-1/2 dozen)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
• 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1/2 cup whole buttermilk
• 1/2 cup butter, softened
• 1/4 teaspoon salt

1. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
2. In a large mixing bowl add the butter and sugar. Beat until creamy. Add the egg, vanilla, and buttermilk. Beat until well combine. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Cookie dough will be sticky.
3. Drop cookie dough, by tablespoon full, onto a large cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
4. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges of cookies turn lightly golden. Cool cookies on baking sheet for 2-5 minutes. Transfer onto cooling rack.

FROSTING:

• 1/4 cup butter, softened
• 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
• 2 cups powdered sugar
• 2-3 tablespoons whipping cream

Colored sugars, edible pearls, sprinkles, and whatever else you can think of to decorate this cookies for any special occasion, optional.

1. Add all ingredients into a medium mixing bowl. With a hand-mixer beat on high-speed for 3 minutes, or until frosting is light and fluffy. DO NOT over beat!!
2. Frost cookies to your liking. Decorate the way you wish, or not!!
