This fish is widely available off the Bengal coastline. During the British era, these were sent to erctwhile Bombay on the Bombay Mail. Thus, the name was coined. This is also referrred to as *Niharika* and is said to be good for vision retention/enhancement.This is very popular in Mumbai and Konkan region and is used in numerous dishes. Bombill fry or deep fried Bomby ducks a popular dish where the soft fishes are marinated and crisple fried and makes for great finger food. Pleae try this recipe and react in our comments section!

Ingredients:

  • Baking powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
  • Sunflower oil - 1 cup
  • Maida/ all purpose flour - 1/2 cup
  • salt as per your taste
  • Lemon juice - 3 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Green chilli paste - 1 tsp
  • Corn flour - 1/4 th cup
  • Sugar - 1/2 tsp
  • Loitta fish/Bombay duck (Cut into half then take tail portion) - 500 gms
  • Rice flour - 1 tbsp
