Irresistible DUTCH APPLE PIES date back to the late medieval times. Today, in America, these fruit pies have evolved into an APPPLE PIE with a deliciously crunchy buttery streusel topping!! Mini DUTCH APPLE PIES
Make 4 - 4" Mini Pies or 1 - 9" Pie
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, optional
- 5 cups Granny Smith Apples (about 4 medium size apples) peeled, cored & thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup sugar
TOPPING:
- 3/4 cups self-rising flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup chilled butter, cubed
- Prepare pie pans with your homemade pie crust (store bought pie crust maybe used). Set aside on cookie sheet with sides.
- In a large mixing bowl; whisk together 1/2 cup sugar, cinnamon, & salt. Add sliced apple. Toss well until apples are coated evenly with sugar mixture.
- Divide coated sliced apples into the 4 prepared dough lined pie pans.
- In a medium mixing bowl; add self-rising flour, sugar, and cubed chilled butter. Cut butter into dry ingredients until mixture resembles the texture of cornmeal. Evenly add to the tops of each apple pie.
- Bake in a preheat 450 degrees F oven for the first 10 minutes. After 10 minutes... reduce heat to 350 degrees F. and bake an additional 40-45 minute or until slightly bubbles around edges.
- Cool on rack for 1-4 hours before serving.
TIPS: Store pies/pie in an airtight container, in refrigerator, up to 3 days.
