Basic SHORTBREAD using 4-ingredients. Simple to make, yet delicious to eat or give as a gift!! ENJOY a homemade taste of Scotland in your very own kitchen. Recipe below...

BASIC SHORTBREAD RECIPE

Preheat oven to 320 degrees F.

  • 1/2 cup salted butter, softened (If using unsalted butter use a pinch of salt)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  1. Line a 6" by 6" baking dish with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl; add softened butter and powdered sugar. Beat or whisk until well combine. Add cornstarch and flour. Continue beating or whisking until ingredients are well incorporated. Form a dough ball.
  3. Add to prepared baking dish. Evenly pat out dough.
  4. Make 5 horizontal cut, one inch apart, in dough (I use a ruler and putty knife). Make one vertical cut in the center. Use a fork to pierce holes in each shortbread dough stick to allow moisture to escape during baking.
  5. Bake on the center over rack for 30-35 minutes or until golden around edges.
  6. Cool in baking dish for 15-20 minutes before removing to cooling rack to cool completely. About an additional 30 minutes to 1 hour, or more.
  7. Break apart shortbread sticks or use a chef knife to cut for smoother edges.

TIPS: Store in an airtight container, at room temperature, up to 5 days, or freeze up to 3 months.
