Indian bread made of Millet flour

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp crushed Cumin seeds, or Cumin powder
  • 2 tbsp curd or 1/3rd Cup Milk
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 Spring Onions finely chopped
  • 2 Cups Millet Flour
  • 1 medium sized carrot Peeled and grated
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red chilli powder (hot variety)
  • 2-3 green chillies finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Bengal Gram Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Carrom seeds
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp Rice Flour
  • 1/4th tsp asafoetida
  • 3 tbsp oil

Method:

  1. Mix together all Ingredients except oil, adding little water at a time, knead a smooth dough. You will require almost same amount of water as flour.
  2. Heat a tawa or skillet, meanwhile Dip a kitchen cloth, or kitchen paper in Water, Squeeze to remove extra water and place on smooth surface. Make 6 equal balls of the dough, place one on wet kitchen paper. Wet your hand, spread the ball with wet hand into a thick Chapati and make some holes in it.
  3. Lift the kitchen paper and turn it upside down on tawa so the Chapati is placed on Tawa. Remove kitchen paper to repeat process with other balls.
  4. Spread oil on sides of Chapati placed on Tawa, and put a few drops in the holes. Cover and cook till bottom side is golden brown.
  5. Turn upside down and repeat procedure to cook the other side. Make all of the Chapatis/ thalipeeth in similar way.
  6. Plate it, drop some ghee on it, and serve hot with tomato sauce or green chutney.
