Meatballs in tomato sauce – quick recipes from my kitchen
The recipe for meatballs in tomato sauce is a great treat when guests sign up for a visit. It can also be well prepared the day before. If it is pulled through overnight, it will taste really good.
When I lived in Canada, there were often minced meatballs in tomato sauce with noodles. I was not so familiar with this combination before. When I added the recipe the other day Church Stories discovered it had to be on the to-do list for next cooking opportunities.
The meatballs in tomato sauce were really sensational. The meatballs make a perfect match with the tomato sauce. The tomato sauce is refined with mushrooms, carrots and extra tomatoes and seasoned with rosemary and thyme. We served rice, but it is also suitable for pasta or simply bread.
Meatballs in tomato sauce
For a delicious and uncomplicated meal for a big round.
800g ground beef (best in organic quality)
8 tbsp breadcrumbs
500 ml of passed tomatoes
250 pieces of canned tomatoes
3 tablespoons tomato paste
5 cloves of garlic
2 teaspoons chopped rosemary
2 teaspoons chopped thyme
2 teaspoons of dried oregano
4 tbsp sugar
Oil for searing
Chop two onions and the garlic and then fry in a pan with 2 tablespoons of oil.
For the meatballs, stir in the meat, breadcrumbs, egg, onion and garlic mixture, salt and 1 teaspoon of cumin. (Hint: You are welcome to roast a sample ball here to taste if the meatballs are properly seasoned)
Make small balls out of minced meat (diameter approx. 3 cm).
For the tomato sauce, cut two onions and two cloves of garlic, cut into mushrooms, tomatoes and carrots.
In a large pot or in a large pan, sauté the vegetables with a little oil and stir in the tomato paste and oregano and roast. Add the passed tomatoes and canned tomatoes. Fill the empty tin of the tomatoes with water again and add it as well. Season with salt, pepper, sugar and a little vegetable stock.
Simmer the sauce for about 15 minutes and then add the meatballs and the thyme and rosemary to the sauce. Simmer with lid closed for another 15 minutes until the meatballs are cooked.
